Episode 137: Sesame Balls

Special equipment:

  • Small blending device

Ingredients:

  • 3 cups glutinous rice flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup mung beans
  • 1/2 cup soy milk
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1/4 cup sesame seeds

Directions:

  • Soak mung beans in water for an hour then drain
  • Mix glutinous flour, baking, powder, and water in a bowl
  • Knead until you get a soft dough
  • Let the dough rest for 2 hours
  • Cook mung beans in a pot over medium heat
  • Add soy milk and sugar
  • Mix well
  • Cook for 5 minutes
  • Puree the mung bean mixture in a blender

  • Roll the dough into small balls and flatten into circles about the size of the palm of your hand
  • Envelop a mung bean with the dough circle
  • Roll in sesame seeds
  • Fry until golden brown
  • Allow sesame balls to cool for 10 minutes before serving
